The dataset contains information on the lithofacies of evaporite formations of Ukraine, which are considered as potential underground storages for conventional and unconventional energy resources. In particular, the evaporite formations of the Dnipro-Donets Basin (Upper Devonian Formations (Frasnian, Famennian) and Lower Permian Formation (Asselian, Sakmarian); the Near Dobrudzha Basin Upper Jurassic Formation (Kimmeridgian); the Transcarpathian Basin Neogene Formation (Tortonian?); Prypiat Basin South-Eastern part Upper Devonian Formation (Frasnian, Famennian).
A GIS-integrated database on the spatial occurrence of lithofacies of evaporite formations in Ukraine’s, which are considered as potential sites for the underground geoenergy storage, has been adapted for integration into the EGDI geoportal as part of the GSEU project (Geological Service for Europe).
Institute of Geological Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (IGS NASU)
Evaporite formations DS have been developing since 1980th at the Institute of Geological Sciences of the NAS of Ukraine. The dataset has been compiled using collected, analysed and structured information on a variety of geological scales (data from boreholes, cross-sections, geological and structural-tectonic maps, geophysical surveys, etc.) and stored in a GIS-based environment using ESRI ArcGIS software. The database has been developed and updated by S.B. Shekhunova, N.P. Siumar, S.M. Stadnichenko and M.V. Aleksieienkova since 1986 to present.
