Title:
Geological map of Latvia Pre-Quaternary deposits scale 1:500 000
Presentation Form:
mapDigital
Abstract:
The geological map of pre-Quaternary deposits, at 1:500 000 scale, covers the national terrestrial area, the Gulf of Riga and the Baltic Sea within Latvia’s territorial waters. The geological map and descriptions include information on the distribution, composition, depositional conditions, and age of the pre-Quartenary deposits. The map is available in digital formats (*.shp and *.lyr), with a total size of 3.54 MB. Data sets consist of 4 – 7 files (containing essential data, coordinate references, and visual representation).

statement:
The pre-Quaternary map of Latvia was issued in 1997 by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development and the State Geological Survey at a scale of 1:500 000. The map was compiled using a precise topographical base, involved analyzing and reinterpreting previous research, including a thorough evaluation of all previously published geological maps. The geological map of the Baltic offshore area in the territorial zone of Latvia was prepared based on seismoacoustic, geotechnical, geological drilling, and mineral prospecting and exploration data. The sedimentary bed is subdivided into units - formations, sometimes, two or more formations are combined in suits due to the low research detail (in particular, in the Baltic Sea). This subdivision corresponds to the stratigraphic frameworks established in the Baltic States during the 1990s. In 2008, the map was revised and digitized, resulting in vector data available in *.shp file format.
