Danish deep geophysical surveys

The Samba database contains information about geophysical investigations made in the Danish sector, acquired according to the Danish Act on the Use of the Subsoil. The data is acquired in relation to investigation for oil/gas, geothermal energy, the storage of gas or salt. That is: Seismic (2D & 3D) acquisitions, CSEM as well as other magnetic and gravity acquisitions shipborne as well as airborne. The dataset also contains geophysical measurement performed in the deep wells and meta data about the seismic surveys. The data has been submitted by the licensees. The database is updated on an ongoing basis.

Free download - All processed data from released 2D and 3D seismic surveys is available for free and can be downloaded using the new GEUS Data portal (interactive map). The field data is requested these is available for the copying and handling cost however if the field data is requested with the purpose of making a commercial product an agreement must be made with GEUS. Please note that GEUS has not received field data from all seismic acquisitions.November 2023: 2D seismic data – If data from a survey is not available for download in the Data portal the reason is that the data is not yet ready, if the data is requested please contact: [email protected]. The data can be purchased for the price of DKK 55 pr. Kilometer data.

Data Quality

The Samba database was established in 1988 as cooperation between the DGU (now GEUS) and the Danish Energy Agency (DEA). The oldest well in the database was drilled in 1936. Today the database contains approx. 2000 wells and 1400 seismic 2D and 3D surveys. In 2014-2016 the GEUS web shop Frisbee was introduced, providing easy access to, and download of, the data from all released appraisal and exploration wells and 3D seismic surveys in Denmark. The data was not free but had to be purchased. Data can be purchased by credit card or invoice. The final well report and the deviation data can be downloaded free of charge. In 2016 the 3D seismic data became available in Frisbee, and the acquisition report is available for download free of charge
In 2022 GEUS together with the DEA decided to make the data available for free download using GEUS Data portal at the same time the released 2D seismic data was included in and made available for free download the Data portal.
