IGME Inventory of Mine Tailings 1989

Database of sterile deposits and coarse materials poured dry (mine tailings) that originate in the mines and quarries. Contains the National Inventory of Mining Tailings and Structures of Mixed Type with information related to physical and geological characteristics, type of mining, impact on the environment, possibility of exploitation, etc. This information has been obtained through the completion of the National Inventory of Mining Ponds and Minig Tainlings from the IGME from 1983 to 1989. It is a georeferenced factual database managed with SQL Server.

The main objective of the base of Mining Tailings is to gather the physical and geological characteristics, type of mining, incidence in the environment, ... of the deposits of sterile and coarse materials discharged in dry (tailings) that originate in mining operations and quarries collected and stored in the Inventario Nacional de Balsas y Escombreras de Residuos Mineros from 1983 to 1989. The reason for the creation of the data was to make updated information on these structures and their spatial situation available to those responsible in the Autonomous Regional Ministries..

Data Quality

The information comes from the "Inventario Nacional de Balsas y Escombreras de Residuos Mineros" carried out by the IGME between 1983 and 1989 and which collects information on 21,673 waste structures (ponds and dumps) from the 50 Spanish provinces. Of the most representative deposits (7,162, of which 574 correspond specifically to mining waste ponds), a complete file was drawn up with all the information on each structure. The entire inventory was dumped into a database created for this purpose in COBOL-81 language and subsequently developed in a relational database system (ORACLE).
In 2013, the information corresponding to the Escombreras and Mixed Type structures (updated in the original database in ORACLE V7 and up to 1989) was dumped, after processing the attributes of the original tables, into a SQL Server 2008 database, from which the WMS of the National Inventory of Escombreras y Estructuras Tipo Mixto service was created.
