Portuguese Mineral Occurrences and Resources Information System - SIORMINP
This spatial dataset is part of the High Value Datasets/HVD identified in agreement with Implementing Regulation 2023/138 of Directive (EU) 2019/1024 on open data and the re-use of public sector information. The Portuguese Mineral Occurrences and Resources Information System (SIORMINP) provides access to geoscientific, technical and economic information on occurrences, reserves and resources, associated commodities, geology, mines, mining activities, mining wastes and areas with mining potential known in mainland Portugal.
A first bibliographic research was performed. Fiches for each occurrence, resource or reserve were filled in with information obtained from that research. After this first stage the occurrences were superimposed to geological and topographic maps at scale 1:50 000 and others. Quality validation was carried out by several mineral resource’s experts. In 2002 a MS Access Database was created to store the information gathered in the previous stages. A custom back office application was also developed to facilitate its update and management. Moreover, each fiche was printed out and stored in the paper archive. In 2005, a simplified version of the SIORMINP was created and made available through the GeoPortal for Energy and Geology (https://geoportal.lneg.pt/) in order to allow access to its users via the Internet. Recently, SIORMINP was migrated to a Postgres/Postgis database that aims to integrate in a single database all the relevant data on mineral resources disperse by other databases. All occurrences and mineral resources are georeferenced through their centroids, which are the geometric centers of the mining concession area, with a maximum margin of error of about 100 m. SIORMINP has been updated and adapted to the data structure model and vocabularies used in European projects, namely EuroGeoSource, Promine, Minerals4EU, ProSUM and Mintell4EU, in compliance with INSPIRE requirements.
