MIN4EU harmonized dataset - "Minerals Inventory" - national data for Portugal

Dataset with information related to the mineral occurrences, reserves and resources, associated commodities, geology, mines, mining activities and mining wastes of Portugal. This information is sourced on LNEG’s database SIORMINP – Information system of Portuguese mineral occurrences and resources, initiated in 1997, which contains geoscientific, technical and economic information on occurrences, reserves and resources and areas with mining potential. Moreover, this information is the result, improvement and adaptation of SIORMINP to the data structure and vocabulary used in former European projects, namely Eurogeosource, Promine, ProSum and Minerals4EU. Now enlarged and adjusted to the MIN4EU database model in the framework of the Mintell4EU project.

Data Quality

WFS provides access to information related to the mineral occurrences, reserves and resources, associated commodities, geology, mines, mining activities and mining wastes of Portugal. This information is sourced in LNEG’s database SIORMINP – Information system of Portuguese mineral occurrences and resources, which contains geoscientific, technical and economic information on occurrences, reserves and resources and areas with mining potential. SIORMINP has 2292 records that have been systematically updated and its operation is ensured by the Mineral Resources and Geophysics Research Unit (URMG) of LNEG. Since 2005, the SIORMINP DB was integrated in LNEG’s geoportal (https://geoportal.lneg.pt/), which is a spatial data infrastructure of integrated services to support the management and visualization of spatial data. SIORMINP's point representation of mineral occurrences corresponds to the centroid of the mining concessions. Moreover, this information is the result, improvement and adaptation of SIORMINP to the data structure and vocabulary used in former European projects, namely Eurogeosource, Promine, ProSum and Minerals4EU. Now enlarged and adjusted to the MIN4EU database model in the framework of the Mintell4EU project, according to INSPIRE requirements. Some specificity of data from distinct layers: Group of minerals instead of minerals : The following minerals (in brackets) should be interpreted as the group of minerals to which they belong: tourmaline (schrol), feldspar (albite), apatite (fluorapatite), mica (muscovite), chlorite (clinochlore), amphibole (ferrohornblende), carbonates (calcite). Mine and Mining activity: Mine with a Minestatus “operating” should be assumed as a mine having a concession. Some inconsistencies between mine’s dates and dates from correspondent mining activity reflects the history of the mine and are referred in the mine remark.
