Superficial deposits local

The superficial deposits data uses polygons to show the extent of deposit-types (also named soil types), classified after their formative process. Line- and point-symbols show smaller occurrences of superficial deposits, as well as landforms and other geological observations. The data shows which superficial deposit type dominates the upper meter of the terrain surface, but other sediment types may occur deeper in the substrate. The data also shows areas with exposed bedrock without sediment cover. Examples of the landforms shows with line symbols are ravines, landslide escarpments, river-cut cliffs. Point symbols are for example used to indicate bedrock outcrops, grain sizes, small landforms and more.
The dataset covers areas in Norway where there has been Quaternary geological mapping in mainly mapping scale 1:30 000 – 1:50 000, however other scales do occur. Older data originally mapped at a more detailed scale (1:5000 – 1:20 000) are included, as they do not meet today’s standards for detailed data, but are of sufficient quality for the local dataset. The spatial accuracy of the superficial deposit data corresponds with the mapping scale.
