Abstract:
The Basic Geological Map of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a detailed map that depicts the geological characteristics and structures of the Earth's surface or subsurface in a given area. It typically shows types of rocks, their age, geological structures such as faults, folds, or fractures, as well as other geological phenomena like mineral or fossil deposits. These maps are essential for understanding the geological history and processes that have shaped a specific area. The Basic Geological Map of the Bosnia and Herzegovina is produced at a scale of 1:100,000 and consists of 37 sheets.

statement:
The Basic Geological Map (OGK) of Bosnia and Herzegovina at a scale of 1:100,000 was initiated in 1961 and officially completed in 1990. The work on its production was organized within the Geological Institute, headquartered in Ilidža. Over 150 geological engineers and geological technicians participated in its creation. The territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina was divided into map sheets at a scale of 1:100,000, consisting of 23 full sheets (each covering an area of about 1,400 km²) and 24 border sheets (with varying surface areas depending on the position of Bosnia and Herzegovina's borders). The Basic Geological Map was completed for the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the exception that the printing of the Bosanski Novi sheet was not carried out. The utility value of the Basic Geological Map is substantial. It contains a significant amount of geological information essential for the preparation of scientific research and applied projects in the fields of mineral resource exploration, potable, thermomineral, and mineral water studies, agriculture, forestry, construction, and environmental protection. The map's significant contribution was particularly evident in the training of professionals in the field of geology. Stable funding from the state budget, which is the common practice worldwide, was crucial for the successful production of the Basic Geological Map.
