Title:
Geological Map of Poland, scale 1:200,000, Map A – Covered Map (second edition)
code:
http://dane.pgi.gov.pl/series/MGP200.II.A
Abstract:
Map A is a component, alongside Map B and the explanatory text, of each sheet of the Geological Map of Poland at 1:200,000 scale (MGP200k). It is a map of surface deposits, known as a 'covered' map (geological map of surface formations). MGP200k is a serial map covering the entire territory of Poland, consisting of 77 map sheets. It reflects the current state of knowledge regarding the country's geological structure. It is used for economic and spatial planning, as well as the preliminary identification of mineral resource occurrences. It serves as a basis for conducting research and creating maps in the fields of regional geology, engineering geology, hydrogeology, geomorphology, and related studies at the same or similar scales. MGP200k is developed based on the Instruction for the Reambulation of the Geological Map of Poland at 1:200,000 scale (1st edition - 2004 and 2nd edition - 2009). Map A of the MGP200k is created by compiling sheets of the Detailed Geological Map of Poland at 1:50,000 scale (SMGP), incorporating current research results from the area and available borehole data, providing a synthetic overview of the region's geological structure. One MGP200k sheet covers up to 16 SMGP sheets. The compilation of Map A includes: the geological map with a legend of colors and symbols, geological cross-sections, synthetic profiles, a summary of borehole logs, and an index of the SMGP sheets used. The content of Map A primarily consists of the surfaces and boundaries of surface geological formations, tectonic and glaciotectonic elements, anthropogenic forms, and other geological features represented by point and line symbols. Common dictionaries have been adopted for the entire series: lithological, stratigraphic, genetic, landforms, and conventional symbols. MGP200k is developed digitally in a GIS environment using the PL-1992 coordinate system (EPSG: 2180). Data are made available as shapefiles, raster map sheet compositions, paper prints, and map services (e.g., WMS).

statement:
The MGP200k Map A is developed based on the compilation of the Detailed Geological Map of Poland (SMGP) sheets at a scale of 1:50,000, taking into account current research results for the area, available boreholes, and 3D models of the subsurface geological structure.
