Title:
Geological Map of Poland 1:200,000 (second edition)

Abstract:
The Revised Geological Map of Poland at 1:200,000 scale (MGP200k) is a map series covering the entire territory of Poland. This is the second edition of the map. The MGP200k is produced in a sheet-based system, consisting of a total of 77 map sheets. For each MGP200k sheet, a geological map of surface deposits (Map A ) and a map excluding Quaternary deposits (Map B ) are developed, along with a common explanatory text for both. The MGP200k reflects the current state of knowledge regarding the country's geological structure. It is used for economic and spatial planning, as well as the preliminary identification of mineral resource occurrences. It serves as a foundation for research and the creation of maps in regional geology, engineering geology, hydrogeology, geomorphology, and related fields at the same or similar scales. The MGP200k is created in accordance with the Instructions for the Revision of the Geological Map of Poland at 1:200,000 scale (first edition - 2004, second edition - 2009). Work on the MGP200k revision began in 2005. The map is based on a compilation of data from the Detailed Geological Map of Poland at 1:50,000 scale (SMGP), incorporating recent research results and available borehole data. It provides a synthetic overview of the area's geological structure, with up to 16 SMGP sheets corresponding to a single MGP200k sheet. The implementation of the MGP200k is carried out in stages, each involving a dozen or so sheets. Every map within a sheet study—Map A and Map B—includes a geological map with explanations of colors and symbols, geological cross-sections, a synthetic profile (Map A), lithostratigraphic profiles (Map B), a list of borehole data, and an index of the SMGP sheets used. Common dictionaries for lithology, stratigraphy, genesis, forms, and conventional signs have been adopted for the entire MGP200k series. The MGP200k is developed digitally in a GIS environment, using the PL-1992 coordinate system (EPSG 2180). Data are made available as shapefiles, raster map compositions, paper prints, and map services (WMS, etc.). Upon completion of all MGP200k sheets, the creation of a continuous MGP200k database is planned

statement:
The MGP200k map is developed based on compilation works of the Detailed Geological Map of Poland (SMGP) sheets at a scale of 1:50,000, including bedrock geological sketches and the analysis of available boreholes. The study incorporates current research results and developments for the given area, as well as available 3D models of the subsurface geological structure.
