Изради ове карте претходила је израда Катастра лежишта и појава минералних сировина Републике Српске. Сам процес израде катастра представља обиман вишегодишњи рад који подразумијева обилазак терена као и електронску обраду података. Након уношења основних података о лежиштима и појавама подаци из катастра минералних сировина нанесени су на претходно урађену геолошку карту а резултат овог процеса је Карта минералних сировина Републике Српске 1:300 000.

Карта минералних сировина Републике Српске урађена је у складу са Дугорочним програмом развоја основних геолошких истраживања Републике Српске. Изради ове карте претходила је израда Катастра лежишта и појава минералних сировина Републике Српске.
