Česká geologická služba vydala v roce 2007 po 40 letech novou geologickou mapu České republiky v měřítku 1 : 500 000. Kvalita této odkryté geologické mapy spočívá v tom, že využívá generalizace poznatků shromážděných během geologického a účelového mapování celého území ČR (213 mapových listů) v měřítku 1 : 50 000 (Cicha et al.).
