Podatkovni niz je bil ustvarjen z združevanjem, poenostavitvijo in vektorizacijo kart kamninske podlage in kvartarnih sedimentov v merilih 1:200 000 in 1:50 000. Območja na karti so opredeljena glede na starost, genetske in litološke enote sedimentov in kamnin, ki ležijo neposredno pod talnim horizontom. Ta karta je v bistvu karta kvartarnih sedimentov, ki vključuje tudi manjša območja izdankov kamninske podlage.
