Title:
Infiltration SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems) Map version 2
Alternate Title:
Infiltration SuDS Map
code:

Abstract:
The BGS Infiltration SuDS Map is a support tool designed to support decisions on the suitability of the subsurface for infiltration SuDS; decisions on the type of infiltration SuDS that will likely be appropriate; assessments of SuDS planning applications to determine whether the necessary factors have been considered; and decisions on whether infiltration SuDS could be appropriate where a non-infiltrating SuDS technique has been proposed. This data product is not a replacement for a soakaway test or site investigation, rather a tool to support SuDS practitioners in their initial desk-based scoping of SuDS feasibility. Two versions of the data product are available: Infiltration SuDS Map: Summary and Infiltration SuDS Map: Detailed. Infiltration SuDS Map: Summary This package comprises four maps that provide an overview of ground suitability for infiltration SuDS. It does not provide any information about the properties of the subsurface. It is purely intended as a dataset for strategic planning. The Summary package consists of the following layers: - Groundwater protection summary - Infiltration constraints summary - Ground stability summary - Drainage summary Infiltration SuDS Map: Detailed This package comprises the four summary layers included within the Infiltration SuDS Map: Summary, plus an additional twenty data layers, containing a wealth of subsurface property information that can be used to make a preliminary assessment of the suitability of the subsurface for infiltration SuDS. The Detailed package consists of the following layers: - Groundwater protection summary - Groundwater source protection zones - Presence of artificial ground - Predominant groundwater flow mechanism - Infiltration constraints summary - Landslide constraints - Artificial ground constraints - Shallow groundwater constraints - Shallow mining (non-coal) constraints - Soluble rock constraints - Ground stability summary - Collabsible ground - Compressible ground - Landslides - Running sands - Shallow mining - Soluble rocks - Shrink-swell - Drainage summary - Bedrock permeability - Depth to water table - Geological indicators of flooding - Superficial deposit permeability - Superficial deposit thickness Layers are provided as GIS vectorised 50 m grids at 1:50,000 scale providing 50 m ground resolution with text descriptions and a numeric score field indicating the suitability of the ground for infiltration.

statement:
This data product is derived from the following datasets: - BGS GeoSure soluble rocks v7 - BGS GeoSure landslides v7 - BGS GeoSure compressible ground v7 - BGS GeoSure collapsible ground v7 - BGS GeoSure shrink-swell v7 - BGS GeoSure running sands v7 - BGS Groundwater flooding susceptibility v6 - BGS Geology 50k artificial ground v7 - BGS Non-coal mining hazards v7 - BGS Geological indicators of flooding - BGS Depth to groundwater v3 - BGS Superficial deposit thickness model v2.1 - BGS Permeability indices v7 - BGS aquifer flow mechanism v6 - Environment Agency and Natural Resource Wales groundwater source protection zone dataset (accessed in 2015) These original datasets were modified to create the component datasets in one or more of the following ways: 1. polygons were reclassified with SuDS scores (details about scores used are included in the user guide) and those with identical attributes were merged 2. raster datasets with continuous numerical values were classified into intervals 3. polygons that were not relevant were not incorporated in the map Resulting polygons were attributed with a score, a short description, a detailed description, an advice description, layer identification (ID), and where relevant, further information about the dataset. The only exception was the superficial thickness data layer, which was not attributed with a score classification. The four summary maps were derived from the rasterised component datasets. For each raster cell, the maximum score from the individual datasets was calculated and used to create the summary map. This is the second version of the Infiltration SuDS map.
