Title:
Bedrock, scale 1:1,350,000
Abstract:
The bedrock data show the distribution on a national scale (1:1,350,000) of the different rock types on the Earth's surface, as well as structures in the rocks and information about the age relationships of the rocks. The data are mainly based on nationwide geological bedrock maps at a scale of 1:250,000. Knowledge of the bedrock plays an important role in the exploration and assessment of various types of raw materials and natural resources, as well as in water supply, waste storage, land-use and environmental planning, construction activities, alternative energy, and the assessment of natural hazards such as earthquakes and landslides. Bedrock data at a scale of 1:1,350,000 are designed to provide a national overview.
purpose:
The purpose of the bedrock data is to show the distribution of rocks and rock structures on the earth's surface, and the data set provides information on the geological properties of the rocks and structures. The map data represent collectively interpreted knowledge about Norway's bedrock, which can be used to assess the bedrock's resource value, hazard potential, and natural value.

Specific Usage:
Knowledge of the bedrock plays an important role in the exploration and assessment of various types of raw materials and natural resources, as well as in water supply, planning and construction of infrastructure, waste storage, land use and environmental planning, construction activities, alternative energy, and assessment of natural hazards such as earthquakes and landslides. Bedrock data at a scale of 1:1,350,000 have been developed to provide a national overview of the bedrock. The dataset is well suited for exploring and understanding Norway's bedrock. In municipal planning, more detailed map data are needed. Maps at a scale of 1:50,000 or better should then be used.
Use Limitation:
Bedrock data at a scale of 1:1,350,000 is intended to provide a national overview
