Geological Boundaries and Tectonics (BGM 1:100.000)

Geological Boundaries and Tectonics represent a spatial dataset derived from the Basic Geological Map of Bosnia and Herzegovina at a scale of 1:100,000 (BGM). The dataset includes digitized geological and tectonic elements depicted in the original cartographic documentation of the BGM. Geological boundaries include confirmed, covered, uncertain and overturned geological boundaries, as well as erosional and tectonic-erosional boundaries, classified as confirmed and covered. Tectonic elements include faults without a specified character, namely confirmed, covered and inferred faults, as well as photogeologically observed and geophysically identified faults. The dataset additionally contains information on relatively downthrown blocks, thrusts and imbricate structures (horsetails).

The dataset is intended for the visualization, examination and spatial analysis of geological boundaries and tectonic structures in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It serves as a basis for geological and tectonic mapping, structural geological analyses, mineral resources exploration, hydrogeological and engineering geological investigations, geohazard assessment, spatial planning, and other geological and scientific research activities.

Data Quality

The dataset is derived from the Basic Geological Map of Bosnia and Herzegovina at a scale of 1:100,000 (OGK) and represents digitized geological boundaries and tectonic elements extracted from the original cartographic documentation. The digitization includes geological boundaries and tectonic structures depicted on the original map sheets, including different categories of geological boundaries, faults, thrusts, imbricate structures and relatively downthrown blocks. The classification of the elements retains the terminology and categories used in the original OGK documentation.

Constraints

Use and access to data in accordance with the applicable regulations and practices of the Geological Survey of the Federation.
Vector data have restricted use and are issued upon request.
