The dataset contains digitized geological terrain profiles based on data from the Basic Geological Map of Bosnia and Herzegovina at a scale of 1:100,000. The profiles illustrate the lithological and geological composition of the terrain, as well as the vertical sequence of geological units along defined profiles.
The geological profiles were created to represent and interpret the geological structure of the terrain in vertical cross-section, including lithological composition, stratigraphic relationships, and the spatial distribution of geological units. The data serve as a professional basis for geological, hydrogeological, and engineering geological analyses, spatial planning, exploration of mineral resources and other natural resources, geohazard assessment, environmental protection, as well as scientific research and educational purposes.
The geological profiles dataset was derived from the documentation of the Basic Geological Map of Bosnia and Herzegovina at a scale of 1:100,000 (BGM), the production of which began in 1961 and was officially completed in 1990. The geological profiles form an integral part of the geological documentation of the BGM and illustrate the geological structure, lithological composition, and vertical sequence of geological units along defined terrain profiles. The data were produced as a result of geological mapping and investigations carried out during the preparation of the Basic Geological Map of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
