The Basic Geological Map represents a summary of the geological composition and tectonics of Bosnia and Herzegovina at a scale of 1:300,000. It outlines the stratigraphy of the Phanerozoic (from Silurian through to Mesozoic and Cenozoic) along with tectonics and geological evolution. It encompasses virtually all existing knowledge about the lithofacies development, thickness, and distribution of geological elements that constitute the geological composition of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is primarily based on the Basic Geological Map of Bosnia and Herzegovina at a scale of 1:100,000 and interpretations of individual full and marginal sheets. Additionally, every significant published work and study, particularly doctoral dissertations written and published from 1960 to 2000, has been considered. This map facilitates quick access to data on all essential aspects of stratigraphy, tectonics, and geological evolution of this part of the Dinarides. The tectonic sketch of the Dinarides of Bosnia and Herzegovina is defined by the position of the external, central, and internal Dinarides.
The author of the Geological Map of Bosnia and Herzegovina at a scale of 1:300,000 is Safet Čičić. The map is primarily based on the Basic Geological Map of Bosnia and Herzegovina at a scale of 1:100,000 and the keys for individual full and marginal sheets. Additionally, every significant published work and study, particularly doctoral dissertations written and published from 1960 to 2000, has been consulted. This map and its interpretation were published in 2002 and provide quick access to data on all essential aspects of stratigraphy, tectonics, and geological evolution of this part of the Dinarides. The publisher is the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Sarajevo - Institute for Geology, with support from Sulejman Čičić (Zagreb), Prof. Dr. Izet Avdagić (Sarajevo), and Mr. Ermin Čičić (Minneapolis, MN, USA). Technical editing was done by Nurko Kaljanac, Sarajevo.
