Geological map of Latvia Quaternary deposits scale 1:200 000

The geological map of Quaternary deposits at a scale of 1: 200 000 covers the national terrestrial area, the Gulf of Riga, and the Baltic Sea within Latvia’s territorial waters. The printed version consists of 14 map sheets along with their explanatory descriptions and includes information on Quaternary sedimentary rocks, aquifers, and geomorphology. A digital version is also available, combining the information into 9 map sheets (*.shp and *.lyr format files, and data sets consist of 4 - 7 files (containing essential data, coordinate reference, and visual representation).

Data Quality

The geological map of Quaternary deposits at a scale of 1:200 000, was published by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development and the State Geological Survey between 1998 and 2001. The map sheets were prepared using survey data, geological drilling, and geological research materials. It was made according to stratigraphic and genetic principles. Stratigraphically genetic units of different ages, genesis, and composition of the Quaternary sediments are represented according to the scale. The geological map was digitized and edited in 2008 and is available in *.shp file format.
