El acuífero abarca una superficie de 119 km² y constituye una de las principales fuentes de agua potable y de riego para la comarca de La Marina Baja. El acuífero está compuesto por calizas y dolomitas que datan del Barremiense al Aquitaniense del Prebético Interno de las Zonas Externas de la Cordillera Bética. El modelo geológico 3D se desarrolló utilizando los programas 3D Geomodeller y Gocad. Este modelo tiene como objetivo determinar el volumen total de las reservas de agua almacenadas y establecer las relaciones geométricas entre las unidades diferenciadas del acuífero. El modelo geológico 3D delimita siete unidades geológicas y cinco fallas primarias y secundarias. Los datos utilizados para construir el modelo 3D incluyen perfiles sísmicos de reflexión, pozos de investigación hidrogeológica y cartografía geológica estructural. El acuífero de Carrascal-Ferrer presenta una estructura geológica compleja, afectada por pliegues de orientación variable, intersectados por fallas inversas y fallas de desplazamiento lateral. The 3D Geological Model of the Carrascal-Ferrer Aquifer is located in the northeast of Alicante Province (Spain). The aquifer spans an area of 119 km² and serves as one of the primary sources of potable and irrigation water for the La Marina Baja region. The aquifer is composed of limestones and dolomites dating from the Barremian to the Aquitanian of the Internal Prebetic of the External Zones of the Betic Cordillera. The 3D geological model was developed using the 3D Geomodeller and Gocad software. This model aims to determine the total volume of stored water reserves and to establish the geometric relationships between the differentiated aquifer units. The 3D geological model delineates seven geological units and five primary and secondary faults. Data used for constructing the 3D model include reflection seismic profiles, hydrogeological investigation boreholes, and structural geological mapping. The Carrascal-Ferrer aquifer exhibits a complex geological structure, affected by variably oriented folds, intersected by reverse faults and strike-slip faults. Basado en la cartografía geológica MAGNA (hojas 822 y 848), 147 mediciones estructurales, fotointerpretación y análisis de modelos digitales de elevación (MDE), 9 secciones transversales geológicas, 28 sondeos hidrogeológicos (DPA) e interpretación de las líneas sísmicas RV-70-V y RV-71-V (1985). El modelo define los principales límites estratigráficos (Mioceno a Aptiense-Albiense) y 5 fallas principales en una superficie de 119 km². La geometría se validó mediante la integración de datos de superficie y subsuperficie. Se observó mayor incertidumbre en el sector occidental debido al control limitado del subsuelo. 3D geological model developed within the HIDROPROAL project (IGME, 2014).
